Kevin Harvick thinks that Kyle Busch is playing with fire when it comes to talking about his future with Richard Childress Racing (RCR). On Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, Harvick was trying to understand why Busch made his most recent comments about RCR.

“I just totally don’t understand why you would make those comments unless you were just not happy with the current situation” Harvick said. “It just doesn’t make any sense to me. I don’t see any scenario where he goes back to [Hendrick Motorsports or Joe Gibbs Racing].”

Busch has been rumored to return to Joe Gibbs Racing after Martin Truex Jr. announced his retirement last week. Before the Iowa race on Sunday, Busch shared some interesting comments about his future.

“I would say anything is possible, always,” Busch said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “Certainly, if I was welcomed I would go back, if Hendrick welcomed me back I’d go back. But right now I’m at RCR with my group of guys and the deal I have right now in place. So, we’re trying to work and build this program and make RCR great again.”

Busch began his Cup Series career with Hendrick before joining Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008. He was with the team from 2008 to 2022 and won the Cup Series championship in 2015 and 2019. Busch is in his second year with RCR and finished 14th in the Cu Series standings last year.

Is Joe Gibbs Racing interested in bringing back Kyle Busch?

Busch might need a change of scenery to get back on track, but is Joe Gibbs racing looking to bring him back. This past weekend at Iowa Speedway, team founder Joe Gibbs was asked the type of driver they are looking for to replace Truex.

“Yeah, we’re still working on all of that and so we just want to focus right now on Martin (Truex Jr.) and all of that stuff will take place later on,” Gibbs said. “We’re thrilled to be here supporting – all of our guys are here. Martin means a lot to us. He used to sit in those competition meetings and he would sit in there and a couple of our drivers would be – and I’d look over at Martin and he’d go (makes weird face and laughter). Martin didn’t say a lot, but when he said it, it meant a lot to us.”
