Lamine Yamal names the former Barcelona icon he would love to play with, it's not Lionel Messi

Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal is going from strength to strength, as he is shining for both club and country.

The 16-year-old became an important player this season as he broke through into the first-team under Xavi, scoring seven times and providing 10 assists in 50 matches.

He was a standout performer for Spain in their excellent 3-1 victory over Croatia to begin their Euro 2024 campaign, and he became the youngest-ever player to feature in the competition.

Yamal has been compared to a young Lionel Messi, and the teenager is viewed as someone who is on the verge of becoming a superstar.

However, when asked which player in the world Yamal would like to play with one day, he selected a different former Barcelona player to the Argentinian.

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal says he wants to play with Neymar

Speaking to Spanish outlet El Partidazo de COPE, Yamal was asked what player in the world he would love to play with one day, and he instantly responded by naming a former Barcelona icon in Neymar.

Neymar left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee in 2017, but endured a tough few years with injury, and is now recovering from a long-term problem he picked up before joining Al-Hilal.

There had previously been talk over a potential return to Barcelona for Neymar, but the likelihood of this looks slim.

Neymar has continued to struggle with injury and is on a huge wage at Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. In the short-term, a return seems out of the question.

At his best, the Brazilian was an all-time great of the game, and he was a key part of Barcelona’s treble-winning side in 2015, when Yamal was just seven years old.

Yamal, like Neymar, is a teenage prodigy with the world at his feet, and he will hope for more success on the pitch next season.
