Liverpool star creates ‘problem’ at Euro 2024 as Reds sent Lamine Yamal claim

A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Gary Neville suggests a Reds ace creates a ‘problem’ at Euro 2024 and the Anfield club learn a target is ‘a bit like Lamine Yamal’.

Liverpool are interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

Liverpool are among the wealth of Premier League teams interested in signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer sales. That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports that the Reds are rivalling Manchester United and Tottenham for the England gem.

Crystal Palace are loath to see the 23-year-old leave Selhurst Park, so will fight to hold off all pursuits. He is the vice-captain in south London and also started for the Three Lions in their opening Euro 2024 game against Serbia on Sunday. But Guehi only has a contract to 2026.

Eagles chiefs will value Guehi at £65m, even if he rejects a new contract with Crystal Palace, given his rise. Selhurst Park chiefs will begin talks about a fresh deal once their centre-back returns to the club. Crystal Palace are even considering adding a release clause to his terms.

Gary Neville thinks Trent Alexander-Arnold in England’s midfield is a ‘problem’

Gary Neville has suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold is a ‘problem’ for England if Gareth Southgate plays the Liverpool star in their midfield. The 25-year-old enjoyed a starting role as the Three Lions kicked off Euro 2024 with a 1-0 win over Serbia from their engine room.

Southgate has only ever used Alexander-Arnold in his midfield against lesser nations. But it came as a big vote of confidence in the right-back to feature centrally against Serbia in the Three Lions’ Euros opener. Yet Neville still believes his best position remains as a right-back.

Having the ability to run forward with the ball and spread passes like an NFL quarterback is where Neville feels Alexander-Arnold thrives the most. But the 26-cap defender cannot find the same spaces when playing in midfield, which may raise issues for England at Euro 2024.

Neville has explained to Sky Sports: “I don’t really want to focus on him being a problem in there. It was the balance of the entire midfield – and I include Declan Rice in that, as well – and what England need to have in there to be able to move forward in this tournament.

“All eyes will be on Trent Alexander-Arnold. His best position is right-back and having the ability to move forward on that side or coming inside and playing that quarterback role.”

Liverpool target Crysencio Summerville is ‘a bit like Lamine Yamal’

Alan Pardew has claimed that Leeds United talent Crysencio Summerville is ‘a bit like Lamine Yamal’ amid Liverpool showing interest in the forward’s transfer. The Reds have the 22-year-old’s name on their shopping list as Anfield chiefs bid to deliver Arne Slot a new wide threat.

Summerville stunned Liverpool during the last Championship season as Leeds failed to earn an instant return to the Premier League. He finished the term third in the Golden Boot race with 19 goals in 43 matches. The Dutchman further laid on nine assists and started 41 times.

But Liverpool are not alone in admiring Summerville as Fabrizio Romano has linked Brighton & Hove Albion with the Leeds star’s transfer. The Seagulls have also made contact to thwart Chelsea and Liverpool’s efforts with Elland Road chiefs likely to cash in for around £35-40m.

Pardew knows just what kind of player Brighton, Chelsea or Liverpool would sign by sealing a transfer from Leeds for Summerville. He briefly coached the Rotterdam native at ADO Den Haag in 2020 and sees similarities to the rise of FC Barcelona and Spain wonderkid, Yamal.

Pardew told TalkSPORT (18/06 08:49): “I had Alex Dyer assisting me and we worked really hard with him to try and get him to understand what it really was in terms of men’s football at such a young age. A bit like Yamal at Barcelona, took like a duck to water. No problem.

“He never feared anybody and he has brought that to Leeds. What he has is over a three kind of yard spell, he has acceleration that you just can’t stay with him. And he has the technique to beat people. Obviously, once he is gone, forget it, he is gone.

“It’s just really his final decision that’s going to be the crux for him in terms of reaching the real higher platforms of football. He is definitely a Premier League player for sure. What I am saying is to get to Liverpool, Brighton might be a better move for him to see how he copes.”
