Rangers may have to overcome Jose Mourinho in hunt for key transfer target - report

Rangers fans have never had the pleasure of Jose Mourinho’s company at Ibrox.

The legendary former Porto boss famously overcame Old Firm rivals Celtic in Seville back in 2003 and it would’ve been nice to have had the opportunity to thank Jose for his exploits.

But over the years – and as Rangers recovered from financial ruin – the Ibrox side have failed to run into the former Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Spurs and AS Roma manager.

That could be about to change this summer.

With Jose Mourinho taking over at Turkish giants Fenerbahce the legendary Portuguese manager faces Champions League qualification and a potential clash against the Gers.

But before the qualifying draw for this season’s revamped tournament is made there’s the small matter of the transfer window.

And according to reports in Turkey, Rangers may have to do battle with the Special One in this arena before they can even think about facing him on the park.

Mourinho wants Rangers target

Rangers are one of a number of clubs who’ve been strongly linked to Bayern Munich talent Yusuf Kabadayi this summer.

The 20-year-old German winger has just spent the season on loan at Schalke 04 and Rangers, Lecce and St Pauli have all been mentioned as suitors.

Now, Turkish outlet Fotomac have claimed that Fenerbahce are stepping up their interest in Kabadayi after Jose Mourinho himself green-lighted a switch.

The Turkish outlet claimed last week that Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are interested in the winger whilst a fresh Fotomac report has claimed contact with Bayern has already been made.

With discussions still to be had over his role at Bayern, Kabadayi will likely be on the move this summer.

Whether that’s permanently, on loan, or with several options attached to the deal, we will have to wait and see.

Rangers face a waiting game over the winger and now it appears we also face additional competition from one of the globe’s greatest managers.

Gers have Kabadayi blueprint

Rangers have their irons in a number of fires as the club looks to rebuild this summer.

Philippe Clement, Nils Koppen and the rest of the Rangers recruitment board have their work cut out as the Gers look to mount a stronger title challenge next season.

With the Ibrox side’s floundering player trading model also being shown up there’s been an increased emphasis on young talents with high ceilings.

But so far only Brazilian left-back Jefte – who was for all intents and purposes a January target – and French centre-back Clinton Nsiala – who never played a senior game for Italian giants AC Milan – are the only new faces in the door.

Yusuf Kabadayi certainly fits the bill in terms of young high potential players but now Rangers could have Jose Mourinho to overcome to secure the winger’s signature.

It’s just as well Rangers have previous with the German giants then…
