Western states no longer fear escalation while assisting Ukraine, says Estonian ambassador

Western countries have now no fear of an escalation while assisting Ukraine, says Ambassador of Estonia to Ukraine Annely Kolk in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

" I don't think, anymore. Now we see that more and more countries are providing Patriots and other air defense systems. Many countries don't restrict Ukraine from using their weapons to attack targets in the federal territory of Russia. Now we see that the US has lifted all these restrictions,” she said.

She noted that such decisions were unimaginable two years ago.

"It means that these threats of escalation – they are not there anymore. And I think Russia is also very well getting that point,” the ambassador added.

Help to Ukraine

Several recent statements by Western leaders confirm the ambassador's words. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, speaking recently about the F-16 strikes on Russia, said that Ukraine has the right to self-defense, this is not an escalation.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that the US authorization to strike by American weapons against targets in Russia is intended to better protect Ukraine and will not lead to an escalation of hostilities on the frontline.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has a similar opinion about strikes with German weapons on Russian territory.
