Love Island stars aren't just about looks - Their science degrees prove it

When it comes to finding success on Love Island there are no qualifications required. Some head into the villa with a wealth of dating know-how, while other Islanders have been single their whole lives. A recent study shows how many of the dating show stars are actually overqualified for their roles as they boast degrees from some of the UK’s top universities.

It’s safe to say any casting team is looking for some kind of star quality in potential Love Island stars. Reality Tidbit even sat down with a casting director who shared her top tips to get on reality TV. The Islanders ooze charm, sass, and a whole lot of glam. But, it turns out they’re not all just pretty faces.

Love Island stars and their degrees

Models, VIP Hosts, account managers, dancers, semi-pro football players, hair stylists, makeup artists, office administrators, and entrepreneurs all walked through the villa doors this June.

The Islanders are single and ready to meet their match in Mallorca this summer – and they’re putting their best personalities forward.

But, it turns out there’s a lot more under the hood of a lot of the show’s contestants.

These guys can do more than look incredible and shout the words: “I’ve got a text.”

A recent study by StuRents analysed all 269 Love Island contestants from seasons 1 to 11 and the total number that went to university to reveal the most common degrees and institutions attended by the show’s stars.

Science degrees for the win

The StuRents study reveals the majority of UK Love Island stars from series 1 to 11 gained degrees in science.

They’re closely followed by those who studied business.

Series 11’s Mimii Ngulube is a mental health nurse who studied nursing and psychology.

More stars who have a science-based degree include series 3’s Camilla Thurlow who studied exercise science and series 4’s Dr Alex George who holds a degree in medicine.

Series 5 stars Yewande Biala, Anna Vakili, and Michael Griffiths, all have science qualifications in Biotechnology, Pharmacy, and Biomedical Science.

Series 6’s Ollie Williams graduated with a degree in Criminology, Nas Majeed studied sports science, and Jordan Waobikeze studied molecular biology.

Repping the science accumen for series 7 was Kaz Kamwi with her Sociology degree.

And series 8 stars Paige Thorne and Dami Hope also both have degrees under their belts. Dami studied biology, while Paige is a paramedic.

Business-minded Islanders

From the study results, it seems if Love Island stars aren’t studying science, they’re taking a keen interest in business.

Many of the Islanders have qualifications in the business field.

Maxwell Samuda, Eva Zapico, Priscilla Anyabu, Chuggs Wallis, Lochan Nowacki, André Furtado, and footballer Montel McKenzie all have business degrees.

More famous faces including Chloe Burrows, Liberty Poole, and Mehdi Edno graduated with Marketing degrees.
