Report: Midfielder who played seven minutes for Nottingham Forest will now get chance to impress PL manager

Nottingham Forest used the loan market in pretty horrendous fashion last season, with none of the players making an impact.

The Reds did learn some lessons on the recruitment front when it came to permanent signings but their temporary additions were ordinary at best.

One of those who arrived at the club last summer was Andrey Santos who checked in from Chelsea.

He joined the ranks under Steve Cooper and it was thought that he would help the Reds control games better than they had the season before.

Instead, he barely got a game under the previous Forest manager and was recalled by the Stamford Bridge giants in January.

Santos joined Strasbourg for the second half of the campaign and now a report has delivered some information on his future.

Report outlines Chelsea plan for Andrey Santos

This is quite interesting and highlights exactly how underused he perhaps was at the City Ground.

According to Alsa Sports, the Blues’ new boss Enzo Maresca is keen to have a look at Santos during pre-season training.

During his time on loan with Strasbourg, Santos made 11 appearances and bagged one goal, earning the Young Player of the Month on one occasion.

The 20-year-old is very highly rated by Chelsea and it would appear that the new head coach is keen to run the rule over him.

Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking came out of the blue at the end of last season and Maresca will now want to put his own stamp on things.

Forest underused Santos and they must learn lessons

The loan market wasn’t a friend for Forest last season and it was catastrophic how it was used on Trentside.

Giovanni Reyna was the stellar loan recruit for the second half of the campaign and Forest barely used him either.

The signing of Santos was just ridiculous though and he played for just seven minutes in the Premier League during his time at the club.

Forest have to learn their lesson from this disaster and ultimately they must use the loan market better this time around.

If clubs sign loan players then they should be to fill gaps in the starting eleven and not simply bring competition to the squad.

Now, it will be interesting to see what Santos can achieve if he does get a proper chance in the Premier League.
