Gabriel Martinelli now delivers honest verdict on Arsenal's transfer priority this summer

Gabriel Martinelli has shared his honest verdict on which position Arsenal have reportedly made a transfer priority this summer.

The Gunners are set for a busy few weeks as Mikel Arteta plans to make a number of big signings in the Basque coach’s quest to bridge the gap between Arsenal and Manchester City, having fallen so short last season.

An attacker has been highlighted as a main priority for Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners also believed to be interested in signing a new midfielder, ideally one that can partner Declan Rice as the no. 6.

Martinelli comments on Arsenal’s hunt for a new attacker this summer

Speaking to AS, Martinelli shared his thoughts on Arsenal’s hunt for a striker, with the Gunners linked with some big players in recent weeks, most notably Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

With the 23-year-old Brazilian international enduring a rough season with Arsenal, there is a potential fear that Martinelli could be replaced this summer, though the winger is seemingly excited about the prospect about a new forward being signed.

Martinelli said on Arsenal’s hunt for a striker: “The people who play for Arsenal, one of the best teams in the world, are very good, very good. The club has to have the best players to have a chance of being champions. We have an outstanding team, with many players of incredible quality.

“Who defines the issue of signings is Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta, it depends on them. The fans are happy when quality players come and improve the team. That issue is not our concern. We have to work on the field and leave that part of the signings to them.”

Martinelli could find new life if attacking competition is signed

After a brilliant 2022/23 season, Martinelli will be the first to admit that his form this year has been way below what Arsenal fans would have expected from the Brazilian international.

Yet the addition of a new attacker who can compete with Martinelli could be what’s needed to breathe new life into the youngster’s career, where every Arsenal supporter knows that the forward can become one of the best in the world.

Indeed, Martinelli is as talented as they come at Arsenal and next season will be a big one for the winger if he’s to get his form back up to scratch and to return to the starting XI alongside Bukayo Saka.
