The latest on Celtic links with Daniel Peretz as Vincent Kompany makes decision

Celtic have been linked with several goalkeepers this summer as Brendan Rodgers searches for a new number one to succeed Joe Hart.

Sparta Prague stopper Peter Vindahl Jensen, Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka, and Aston Villa youngster Viljami Sinisalo are just some of the names mentioned as the Bhoys look to strike in the market.

According to reports earlier this month, Celtic enquired about the availability of Bayern Munich’s Daniel Peretz, who has also been courted by Union Berlin, Sevilla, Villarreal, Anderlecht, Copenhagen and Nottingham Forest.

The Israel international is behind Manuel Neuer in the pecking order at the Allianz Arena and appeared just twice for the German giants in 2023/24 [Transfermarkt]. It is believed that a potential loan to earn the 23-year-old minutes elsewhere had been explored.

New information has now come to light on his future as Vincent Kompany settles into the Bayern managerial position.

Vincent Kompany makes decision on Celtic-linked Daniel Peretz

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Peretz will remain at Bayern next season to fight it out with Sven Ulreich for their number two goalkeeper slot.

Plettenberg stated: “Daniel #Peretz will stay at FC Bayern after Vincent #Kompany has made clear that he wants him to stay. It’s decided now! Peretz will now compete with Sven Ulreich for the number two spot. No more plans about a loan move for the 23 y/o as also via @FrankLinkesch.”

Kompany clearly has a plan in mind for Peretz, which will mean Celtic have to look in an alternative direction for a new goalkeeper.

Truthfully, the prospect of a loan move for the Tel-Aviv-born man didn’t feel like a secure option. If the terms involved didn’t include an option to buy, the Bhoys would’ve been stuck in a similar position one year down the line, something we reviewed in detail on 67 Hail Hail.

Permanence is key between the sticks and helps to establish a fruitful relationship between the last line of defence and their counterparts who function together as a unit. Peretz is a talented individual, but hopefully, Celtic can secure a long-term solution rather than a temporary one.
