Ukraine and the European Union have officially agreed on the text of a security guarantees agreement, which is set to be signed shortly, citing the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, held the final round of negotiations on the security agreement with the EU with Charles Fries, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service for Peace, Security, and Defense.
The negotiating teams from Ukraine and the EU have finalized the text of the agreement and agreed to sign it soon.
The agreement with the EU will be concluded under the joint declaration of support for Ukraine, which the European Union, together with the G7 countries, approved in Vilnius on July 12, 2023.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Ukraine has already signed security guarantees agreements with 15 European countries. These include the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, and Iceland.
Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and American leader Joe Biden recently signed a corresponding security agreement.
Each of the agreements shares common features - support for Ukraine during the war, assistance in various areas, and support on Ukraine's path to the EU and NATO. However, each country has also made individual commitments according to its capabilities.
