Oregon Ducks right-handed pitcher Turner Spoljaric has entered the Transfer Portal.

The sophomore pitcher spent two seasons pitching for the Ducks. That included starting 11 games out of 27 career appearances for Oregon.

Turner Spoljaric struggled with consistency at times during his two seasons with the Ducks. His career ERA is 8.03 in 68.1 total innings pitched. He has also given up 94 hits and 34 walks over the course of his career while striking out 39 batters. His sophomore campaign was even more limited, only throwing 13.1 innings in the 2024 season.

That limited time pitching as a sophomore came after a promising freshman season where he started in the bullpen but worked his way into the weekend rotation.

In 2024, Spoljaric was named to the Dean’s List. He also earned Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week honors in May of 2023.

A Canadian-born player, Spoljaric was ranked as a top-500 recruit by Prep Baseball Report and Perfect Game. He was also the sixth-ranked Canadian player, according to Perfect Game. He was named first-team all-tournament and pitcher of the tournament at the 2021 New Balance Future Stars Series and was selected to the 2021 Under Armour All-America Game. Spoljaric has also played on the Canadian junior national team.

From a baseball family, Turner Spoljaric’s father, Paul had a six-year MLB career. In it, he pitched for the Blue Jays, Mariners, Phillies, and Royals.

In 2024, the Oregon Ducks went 40-20 and went to the NCAA Super Regional. It was the second season in a row for the Ducks to win at least 40 games and the second in a row going to a Super Regional. The two years before that, the Ducks went to the Super Regional.

The Transfer Portal for NCAA Baseball

NCAA college baseball has two separate windows for players to enter the Transfer Portal. The main window is the one that is open now. That’s starting in late May, while the NCAA Tournament is underway, and it remains open for a total of 45 days. The other window that college baseball has is open for 15 days in December.

Unlike sports like football, baseball has unique challenges relating to scholarship distribution that coaches need to manage and could impact players as they transfer.

NCAA Division I baseball teams get between 11 and 12 scholarships despite the rosters being more than double that size. It means players receive partial scholarships. That means that coaches need to find a way to balance those scholarships with players already on the roster and who they’re bringing in.
