New goal song in Hamburg stadium at Euros due to local rivalry

UEFA has changed the song played after goals in the Hamburg stadium at Euro 2024, with a rivalry between local clubs St Pauli and SV Hamburg believed to be the reason.

The stadium used at the Euros is the home arena of SV Hamburg. In the city's first match between the Netherlands and Poland which ended 2-1, Blur's Song 2 was played, a song also used by St Pauli at their home games.

The Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper said this led to protests from SV Hamburg fans, and on Wednesday Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes was played after Qazim Laci scored for Albania against Croatia.

SV Hamburg stadium announcer Christian Stübinger, who is also working at the Euros, said on Instagram before the match: "Most important news: I have forwarded your complaints regarding Song 2 by Blur, and UEFA has indeed 'adapted' the goal song for today (out of solidarity with HSV)."
