Report: Liverpool are watching 'super talent' at Euro 2024, he has just lost his first game

Liverpool are keeping an eye on Euro 2024 as they formulate their transfer plans.

The Reds have so far stayed away from the summer market, preferring perhaps to wait until Arne Slot has settled in before making any moves.

The new head coach will be due to get down to work at the AXA Training Centre over the next two weeks. As a result, Liverpool fans may finally start to see some movement in the summer window.

In the meantime, the European Championships are a nice little distraction. There are plenty of players who could certainly add some quality to the Liverpool squad.

As the Reds cast their gaze over goings on in Germany though, not every player on their transfer list is having such a good time of it.

Liverpool still tracking Georgiy Sudakov

Only six of Liverpool’s 10 representatives made it onto the pitch for their Euro 2024 opener.

Just one of those – Cody Gakpo – found the net, while four players were left on the bench throughout their nation’s games.

Liverpool have players from seven different countries turning out this summer. After the first round of matches four won and three lost.

If we extend this ratio out to players being linked with moves to Anfield, then Liverpool can have an interest in virtually every country present.

For Ukraine, the Reds are reportedly keen on signing midfielder Georgiy Sudakov. The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder played 83 minutes during their 3-0 loss against Romania on Monday.

Sudakov reportedly came close to joining Liverpool last summer and the Reds have continued to be linked with him since.

The latest reports come from Give Me Sport, who claim that Liverpool are ‘tracking the progress’ of Sudakov at Euro 2024.

Shakhtar are reportedly hopeful that the 21-year-old can increase his value during the tournament and bank them at least £42m.

It’s claimed that ‘ideally’ the Ukrainian side are looking for closer to £55m. They’re said to be hoping that a good showing in Germany will help them to get close to this sum.

Georgiy Sudakov impresses despite Ukraine defeat

You’d have to say that the tournament has not started well for Shakhtar’s hopes of offloading Sudakov for a mega fee.

After losing so heavily to Romania, Ukraine now have an uphill battle to qualify past the group stage. Despite that though, Sudakov did indeed look bright during Monday’s defeat.

One who was impressed was former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy.

“He is going to end up doing good things in the game, he is super talent,” Murphy said on the BBC coverage.

“Lovely balance, glides past people. He is a real talent, lots of clubs looking at him all over Europe. I think he is going to be expensive to get him out of there. But we will be seeing much more of this guy throughout the tournament, he’s a super talent.”

Wherever Sudakov goes over the next weeks, it sounds like Liverpool will be watching.
