Former mayor of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region Hennadii Matsehora, who sided with the Russians in 2022, is in an induced coma in Moscow, according to RBC-Ukraine sources in the special services.

After the assassination attempt, the ex-mayor was put into a medically induced coma in a Moscow hospital.

The source says that Matsehora is still in a coma.

Liberation of Kupiansk

After the Russians captured the city in February 2022, Matsehora began to cooperate with them. A criminal case was opened against him for treason, it has already been submitted to the court.

The fighting for Kupiansk began in September 2022 during a counteroffensive by the Ukrainian forces in the east. The Ukrainian army was able to liberate the city, which was strategically important as a key railroad junction used by Russian troops to supply their units.

The fighting was intense and accompanied by significant infrastructure damage. The liberation of Kupiansk was an important victory for Ukraine, allowing it to continue its advance to the east and strengthen its position in the region.

Attempted assassination on Matsehora

In early June, the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported an assassination attempt on the former mayor of Kupiansk, who was in the Belgorod region.

Later, it was reported that the former mayor of Kupiansk died in a Russian hospital. RBC-Ukraine sources in the Defense Forces reported that this information was being clarified.
