'Interesting': Arne Slot confirms he has just hired a new coach at Liverpool who he's never worked with before

Liverpool fans have finally heard from their new head coach. Arne Slot has given his first interview at the club.

Reds supporters have been waiting a long while to see Jurgen Klopp’s replacement in the flesh.

And on Wednesday that meeting eventually came around. Slot spoke to the the club’s media from the AXA Training Centre.

Of course, it is not just the new head coach who is arriving at Anfield this summer. Slot has to bring a whole new coaching team along with him.

With one or two confirmations already taking place, the 45-year-old announced that one more hire has now been made.

Arne Slot confirms Fabian Otte appointment

Slot bringing his own team with him to Liverpool has not been without it’s problems. Feyenoord coach Etienne Reijnen was blocked from joining for work permit related reasons.

His former club were also reportedly keen to block Slot from taking too many more of their coaching staff. As a result, the new boss has had to look elsewhere to bring new blood into the backroom staff.

One of the key areas that has needed addressing is the goalkeeping department. Long-time head of goalkeeping John Achterberg has joined Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq.

And during his interview with Liverpoolfc.com, Slot confirmed that he has now hired Fabian Otte to fill the position.

“There’s a replacement in the goalkeeping staff as well,” says the Dutchman. “We’ve brought in Fabian Otte, who was working at Borussia Monchengladbach and is still now with the USA team at the Copa America.

“So those are the first positions we filled in and I think we are still looking for one or two other positions,” adds Slot. “I just said in the beginning of the interview that Richard and me are calling each other a lot, not only about this but also about the positions we still have to fill in.

” If you bring in Fabian, who I didn’t know before, you have conversations, meetings with him – together with Richard [Hughes] – to bring the best possible person in we could find, and I think in the situation of Fabian we managed to do that.

“He’s regarded as one of the most interesting goalkeeper coaches there is at the moment and in the meetings we had I felt this as well. [There are] still one or two positions to fill in and we are talking about this and having meetings about this as well.”
