'More exotic': Alan Nixon makes interesting claim about Liam Rosenior after he rejected Sunderland

Liam Rosenior now looks to be out of the running for the Burnley job, shortly after rejecting Sunderland.

Rosenior looked to be the favourite to take over at Sunderland earlier this month, with the club set for a second round of talks after publicly declaring an announcement was imminent.

However, it wasn’t long before the former Hull City coach’s name was added to Burnley’s shortlist.

It was previously reported that Rosenior, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker were under consideration at Turf Moor, which resulted in the 39-year-old rejecting Sunderland.

Rosenior not included in Burnley’s updated three-man shortlist

The relegated club are yet to appoint a new manager, however journalist Alan Nixon’s recent claim suggests that Rosenior is now out of the race.

When asked on X whether the Burnley job is between Lampard, Parker and Craig Bellamy, Nixon wrote: “I think those are the main ones, unless Pace wants something more exotic… but it’s not the time for that.”

Rosenior’s name is nowhere to be seen in Burnley’s final three-man shortlist, with an appointment surely likely to be confirmed very soon.

This suggests that the coach could still be out of work if he fails to land the Lancashire post.

Should Sunderland go back in for the 39-year-old?

Meanwhile, Sunderland are said to be looking at some ‘unnamed candidates’, but things have been very quiet since Rosenior pulled out.

It seems like the club are miles away from appointing a new head coach, but perhaps they were waiting to see how it played out with the former Tigers boss first.

While it certainly damages the club’s pride, they may have to bite the bullet and go back in for him.

Sunderland was never going to be his first choice and supporters have to accept that given the current state on Wearside.

However, if he revives his interest in moving north after Burnley appoint a manager, then the Black Cats should try their best to appoint him once again.

Fans are desperate for this saga to be over and it seems like if the club don’t appoint Rosenior, then it could be someone extremely far down on the list of potential alternatives that is reluctantly given the job.
