'I would': Pundit shares who he would start as England's number 10 vs Denmark - Phil Foden or Jude Bellingham

Jason Cundy has revealed which player he would deploy in the number 10 position for England against Denmark: Phil Foden or Jude Bellingham.

Sam Allardyce feels Gareth Southgate should play Foden centrally in any case, as in his view, that is his best position.

However, Wes Brown has stated that the 24-year-old must adapt when played out of position — adding that Bellingham is a superior player, who is thriving as the Three Lions’ attacking midfielder.

Jason Cundy settles Phil Foden-Jude Bellingham debate for the number 10 role

Considering both Foden and Bellingham are outstanding in the same position, Southgate has a dilemma on his hands.

Either, the England boss continues to play the Real Madrid poster-boy behind Harry Kane after his masterclass in his side’s 1-0 win against Serbia.

Gareth Southgate could also consider switching things up by giving the Manchester City technician a go as his side’s number 10.

On talkSPORT, Jason Cundy claimed that when England face Denmark, he would play Foden as the number 10, deploying Bellingham in central midfield.

Cundy said: “I would seriously consider playing [Jude] Bellingham alongside [Declan] Rice, playing [Phil] Foden as a [number] 10, I’d play [Anthony] Gordon out left, [Bukayo] Saka out right and [Harry] Kane down the middle and the back four as was.”

“But Bellingham can still get there [in the attacking midfield zones].”

Gareth Southgate should consider the change when England play Denmark

The Danes are a quality outfit and as proven in their 2-1 defeat to the Three Lions at Euro 2020, they can trouble the top teams on their day.

However, it would be worth listening to Jason Cundy for Gareth Southgate and testing Foden as a number 10 and Bellingham as a number eight for England against Denmark.

Ultimately, Manchester City’s number 47 is exceptional in his natural role while the latter has mostly spent his career in a deeper position.

As a result, the two positional shifts would not affect his team too much.

In the event that Foden fails to impress as England’s primary attacking midfielder, Southgate could push Bellingham further up the pitch instead.

The former Middlesbrough boss also has plenty of attacking talent on the bench in case his team is having an off day going forward.

In case Foden sets the world alight as England’s number 10 against Denmark, Southgate would have a good problem on his hands.
