How Newcastle will react if Arsenal make swap deal bid for Bruno Guimaraes soon - journalist

Time is running out for Newcastle United, in the best way possible.

Indeed, while star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has a release clause believed to be worth around £100m in his contract this summer, there have been suggestions it can only be activated until June 30.

In fact, there were even recent claims from Brazil that a deal would need to be done by June 24.

After that, Newcastle are free to reject any offers for the Brazil star, who is said to be relaxed about his future at St James’ Park.

With that in mind, the closer we get to that deadline, the better for all involved on Tyneside.

Manchester City are thought to be the player’s preferred club should he leave Newcastle – and there’s no suggestion he’s actively pushing for a move.

For their part, City are reportedly only likely to accelerate their interest should one of their current midfielders ask to leave.

Arsenal have also been linked and reports from Football Transfers suggest they are prepared to launch a player-plus-cash deal in order to tempt Newcastle to sell.

Now, however, more insight has emerged.

How Newcastle will react if Arsenal try and swap players for Bruno Guimaraes

According to journalist Joel Bland on X (formerly Twitter), the club are not minded to accept any such offer from the Gunners.

He even goes on to claim that there is increasing confidence that Newcastle will be able to keep Guimaraes for at least one more season.

Newcastle need to move on from Bruno Guimaraes – even if he stays

Keeping Guimaraes would obviously be a major boost. The 26-year-old has had a transformative impact on the club, after all.

However, at some point, he may go. Ideally, it wouldn’t be this summer of course but relying so heavily on one player is not healthy.

Newcastle have not won a Premier League game without him since he signed. For a team looking to break back into the Champions League, that is not good enough.

Even while he’s still around, Newcastle need to find ways to win without Guimaraes.
