The Organization of American States has decided to join the communiqué of the Peace Summit regarding Ukraine held in Switzerland, according to a statement from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the President, today the representation of the American continent, particularly Latin America, in the joint communiqué of the Peace Summit has increased.
"Officially now - the Organization of American States, which unites countries from both Americas, North and South. As well as the island nation of Antigua and Barbuda," he stated.
The President emphasized that Ukraine views the entire world as equals, and this is our ideological distinction from Russia in international relations. Ukraine respects every nation and counts on every voice in cooperation among peoples, which is precisely how the UN Charter is structured—to ensure that all states matter.
"Putin, on the other hand, wants only himself or those he personally designates to matter. This is a typically colonial worldview in Russia, which we, together with all partners, must break," said the President.
Organization of American States (OAS)
An international organization established on April 30, 1948, at the 9th Inter-American Conference in Bogotá, Colombia, based on the Pan-American Union which had existed since 1889.
The organization was created to achieve peace among its member states. Today, the OAS brings together 34 countries of North and South America (excluding Cuba and Venezuela, Nicaragua) and is the principal political, legal, and social force in the hemisphere.
The organization operates along four pillars to effectively pursue its main objectives, based on its core principles: democracy, human rights, security, and development.
Peace Summit on Ukraine
Over the weekend in Switzerland, a Peace Summit on the war in Ukraine took place, from which Russia was not invited but could potentially participate in future similar events.
Recently, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, announced that several countries continue to study the communique of the Peace Summit on the war in Ukraine and will decide on possible accession to it.
