Middlesbrough All-Time Top Scorers with Record Holder Netting 345 Goals

Middlesbrough have had a number of high-scoring players on their books over the years but who has scored the most goals?

Middlesbrough have not been overly blessed with quality number nines over the last several years, though Chuba Akpom did score 29 in the 2023/24 season.

Prior to that, though, you have to go back to the 1996/97 campaign to find a player who hit more than 20 in one season, with Fabrizio Ravanelli finding the net 31 times for the North East outfit.

But who has scored the most goals for Middlesbrough in their history? Here,Boro News rank the top 10 highest scorers for the Teesside club, all the way up to their record goalscorer.

10 – Billy Pease – 102 goals

Billy Pease joined Middlesbrough in May 1926 from Northampton Town and spent seven years at the club before leaving Luton Town in June 1933.

Pease scored 99 league goals in 221 appearances and three FA Cup goals in 17 outings for the club.

9 – Wilf Mannion – 110 goals

Wilf Mannion began his career at Middlesbrough, joining his local club in 1936 before departing for Hull City in 1954.

Mannion scored 99 league goals in 341 appearances and 11 FA Cup goals in 27 matches during his stint at Boro.

8 – David Mills – 111 goals

Whitby-born David Mills began his career with Middlesbrough, joining the North East outfit in 1968 before leaving for West Brom in 1979.

Mills scored 90 league goals in 328 league appearances, 10 FA Cup goals in 29 outings and found the net eight times in 24 League Cup fixtures.

7 – Alan Peacock – 141 goals

Middlesbrough-born Alan Peacock began his career with his local side and spent the majority of his career there before leaving for Leeds United in 1964.

Peacock scored 125 league goals in 218 appearances, eight FA Cup goals in 13 matches and eight goals in seven League Cup ties.

6 – Bernie Slaven – 146 goals

Bernie Slaven joined Middlesbrough in 1985 from Scottish side, Albion Rovers. He spent eight years in the North East before signing for Port Vale in 1993.

Slaven scored 118 league goals in 307 appearances, four FA Cup goals in 19 outings, 10 League Cup goals in 27 games, and found the net 14 times in various other competitions.

5 – Micky Fenton – 162 goals

Micky Fenton, born in Stockton-on-Tees, spent his entire career, which lasted from 1932 to 1950, on Middlesbrough’s books.

During his 18-year career, he found the net 147 times in 240 league appearances and scored 15 FA Cup goals in 29 matches.

4 – John Hickton – 192 goals

John Hickton joined Middlesbrough in 1966 from Sheffield Wednesday and spent 12 years at the club before joining Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Hickton scored 159 goals in 415 league outings for Boro, 13 FA Cup goals in 37 games, found the net 13 times in 30 League Cup matches and scored seven more goals in various other competitions for the Teessiders.

3 – Brian Clough – 204 goals

Middlesbrough-born Brian Clough began his senior career in his hometown in 1955, spending six years with Boro before leaving for Sunderland in 1961.

During his time with Boro, Clough scored 197 league goals in 213 games, five goals in eight FA Cup appearances and two goals in just one League Cup outing.

2 – George Elliott – 213 goals

George Elliott spent all of his senior career, which began in 1909, playing for Middlesbrough. He retired in 1925 with his last game against Southampton.

Elliott scored 203 goals in 344 league appearances for the North East outfit and 10 FA Cup goals in 21 outings.

1 – George Camsell – 345 goals

George Camsell holds the record for the most goals scored by a Middlesbrough player with 345 – a record that is unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.

Casmell joined Middlesbrough from Durham City in 1925 and spent the remainder of his career with Boro before retiring in 1939.

The striker scored 325 league goals in 415 appearances and 20 FA Cup goals in 35 outings. Casmell also holds the record for most goals scored by a Middlesbrough player in one season, netting 63 in the 1926/27 campaign.
