Report: Bayern Munich have now joined the race to sign £11m Man City player this summer

Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the race to sign one particular Manchester City player this summer.

Back in May, the German side appointed former City captain Vincent Kompany as their new manager.

Prior to this, the former defender was in charge of Anderlecht before spending two seasons as Burnley manager where he got them out of and then back into the Championship.

With the latest summer transfer window open for business, the Bundesliga club have set their sights on signing a player currently in Pep Guardiola’s squad at the Etihad Stadium, who Kompany has previous experience working with.

Bayern Munich looking at potential transfer move for Sergio Gomez

According to a recent report from Deportes COPE Gipuzkoa, Bayern have now got their eyes on securing a summer transfer deal for Sergio Gomez.

The full-back has been linked with a move to Real Sociedad in recent weeks, with Fabrizio Romano revealing on his official X account earlier this month that the Spanish club had opened talks with City about a potential deal.

Kompany knows all about Gomez

City paid £11m to sign the Spaniard from Anderlecht, where he made 47 appearances under Kompany, back in the 2022 summer transfer window.

During his time with the Citizens, the 23-year-old has only appeared in 38 games across all competitions, starting just 14 of them.

With Gomez scoring seven goals and delivering 15 assists in the 47 games he played for Kompany at his previous club, it comes as no surprise that the new Bayern boss could be eyeing up a potential reunion.

Moving forward, if the defender isn’t likely to be getting much game time at City, the best move for him could be to join a side that can give him sufficient minutes.

In our view, if Bayern or any other side with an interest in Gomez puts in a suitable offer for him, the Manchester club should look to cash in on the fringe player.
