The season came to an end for head coach Scott Forbes and the North Carolina Tar Heels with a loss to the Florida State Seminoles in Omaha.
Still, it was a historic season for North Carolina, winning the ACC in the regular season and making it to the College World Series. It’s a season that is going to mean a ton to Forbes as he continues in his career.

“I mean, to be bluntly honest with you, I changed the lens through how I coached a couple years ago,” Scott Forbes said. “And I give all that credit to having faith in Jesus Christ. And it’s all about relationships for me. So, it’s not about me. It’s not about me getting the team to Omaha, it’s about the team getting to Omaha, and the program and the former players. That’s what I’m most disappointed in, that I don’t get to put the uniform on again with my team, and I don’t get to see the former players that are out here.”
Scott Forbes has been the head coach at North Carolina since 2021. That came after he was the team’s pitching coach from 2006 through the 2020 season.
In the end, North Carolina went 48-16, which was the best record any Tar Heels team has had since Forbes became the head coach. The College World Series also ended up being the team’s deepest run in the postseason under him. It was North Carolina’s deepest run since making it to Omaha in 2018.
“And the longer you do it, you just realize those relationships, and that brings you pure joy. It’s hard when you lose like that. But we talk about it all the time: To win a national championship, where is your joy coming from? I think these guys know where that comes from. It comes from creating those memories and having those relationships that you’re never going to lose,” Forbes said.
“So, it means a lot for our program more. The program’s way bigger than me. The university’s bigger than me and the players are much, much — they’re the ones who make the program. So, for me, I’m just so happy that they got to experience Omaha. And we got a lot of young guys that I’m hoping can help all these other guys that come back to UNC and come in, that they can also experience Omaha.”
In the end, North Carolina’s season ended in back-to-back losses to Tennessee and Florida State.
