Jac Caglianone breaks Florida Gators career-home run record

Florida utility Jac Caglianone (14) hits during the first inning of an NCAA baseball matchup at 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, Fla. Florida State defeated Florida 14-3.

OMAHA, Neb. — Jac Caglianone is the new home run king of the Florida Gators baseball program.

A towering home run against the Kentucky Wildcats at Charles Schwab Field further cemented lefty slugger Jac Caglianone‘s legacy at the University of Florida. The ball that left Caglianone’s bat on Saturday night was his 35th of the season and the 75th of Caglianone’s career, breaking a record previously held by Matt LaPorta.

The hit was also Caglianone’s 102nd of the season. He is the first Florida player to have 100 hits in a season since Jeff Corsaletti in 2005 and is just two shy of tying the single-season record.

“The thing I keep saying over and over is how he’s been able to submerse himself into the team and not his own personal success, which has really allowed him to have the season he’s had,” Kevin O’Sullivan said of Caglianone. “
