Report: Liverpool have made move to sign wonderkid defender, they can sign him for just £5m

Liverpool are continuing to look at the most exciting young talents across Europe.

The Reds have had a knack of picking up excellent bits of business from around Britain over recent years.

Players such as Ben Doak and Trey Nyoni have been picked up for small fees and already integrated into the Liverpool squad.

Others have supplemented the academy with a view to one day making the step up to Arne Slot’s first-team.

Post-Brexit rules have made it more difficult for Liverpool to bring in youngsters from the continent. However, the capture of Stefan Bajcetic just before the rule change showed how beneficial this can be.

Liverpool make approach for Yasin Ozcan

Bajcetic was brought in at the last minute pre-Brexit, meaning he could join Liverpool as a 16-year-old.

Now that a similar approach is off the table for the Reds, they can’t bring players to the club before their 18th birthday.

No matter though, some bargain signings can still be picked up. There are of course those who have already made a splash by 18, such as top defensive target Leny Yoro. But there are others who are somewhat going under the radar.

One of those to fall into the latter category is Turkish defender Yasin Ozcan. Despite only turning 18 in April, Ozcan has already played 60 times for Super Lig side Kasimpasa.

Playing at either left-back or centre-back, Ozcan would potentially fill a current need in the Liverpool squad. If he could grow into that role he could certainly be useful.

And according to Turkish outlet Aslinda, Liverpool seem to agree. They claim that the Reds have made a formal approach to sign Ozcan this summer.

The 18-year-old is reportedly being ‘chased’ by plenty of clubs across Europe. Besiktas are said to be the club most interested in rivalling Liverpool.

But it is the Reds who have formalised their interest. Liverpool are said to have been tracking Ozcan for a long time and have made their intentions to sign him known to Kasimpasa.

Liverpool could sign Yasin Ozcan for just £5m

Whereas Yoro is surely a bigger prospect than Ozcan, Liverpool would also have to pay around ten times as much for him.

According to another Turkish outlet this week – Sporx this time – Kasimipasa are looking for around £5m to sell their highly rated teenager.

They claim that Fenerbahce have also launched an attempt to sign Ozcan, and are offering two players in exchange.

Interestingly, one of those said to be offered up for a trade is Liverpool academy graduate Ryan Kent. The other is Joao Pedro.

However, Kasimpasa are reportedly more interested in a cash buyer and have not yet responded to Fenerbahce’s proposal.

Let’s see if this one progresses at all.
