'Can’t explain': Jack Grealish left amazed by player Man City let go last year at Euro 2024

Jack Grealish sent a message to a former Manchester City player, who shone for his country at the European Championship.

As far as current Manchester City players go, Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic had to experience the disappointment of Albania’s heroic late comeback against Croatia.

Klaus Gjasula’s late equaliser meant the Croatians drew the game 2-2, after coming back from one goal down themselves. With just one point from two games, their chances of qualification are slim, yet still mathematically possible.

Jack Grealish sends message to Ilkay Gundogan as Germany beat Hungary

However, when it comes to ex-City players, a certain Ilkay Gundogan stole the headlines, getting on the scoresheet for Germany in his side’s 2-0 win against Hungary.

Jamal Musiala opened the scoring for the Germans, scoring after getting on the end of a scrappy assist from the former Manchester City captain.

Grealish, who was watching the contest took to Instagram to send a message to Gundogan, hailing his brilliance.

On Gundogan, Grealish wrote: “Can’t explain how good this guy is man. Honestly, one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with.”

Jack Grealish would have seen the Ilkay Gundogan goal multiple times

After Gundogan scored, Grealish would have harked back to the days at the Etihad Stadium when he used to score the same type of goals constantly.

The German skipper was unmarked in the box before he converted Maximilian Mittelstädt’s inch-perfect cross with a brilliant finish.

Gundogan’s innate ability to roam into space inside the opposition’s box and score goals is a trait that was missed by City last season.

Even Phil Foden, who scored 19 goals in the Premier League in the previous campaign is yet to develop this very instinct.

However, even at 33 years of age, the Barcelona midfielder seems not to be losing this knack for scoring goals from inside the box anytime soon.

Considering how terrific Gundogan was during the entirety of the game as well, Grealish perhaps felt he had no choice but to reserve special praise for his former teammate.
