UEFA fines Serbian, Albanian associations for 'provocative messages'

European football ruling body UEFA has handed the Serbian and Albanian associations a fine of €10,000 ($10,745) each after fans transmitted "provocative messages not fit for a sports event," the body said on Wednesday.

UEFA didn't provide further details.

English media reported that monkey noises were made in the direction of English players during England's group stage game against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.

The fan was not arrested or expelled from the stadium during England's 1-0 win in Gelsenkirchen, although stewards and police were present.

The Serbian association must also pay a fine of €4,500 euros because objects were thrown from the stands.

The Albanian association also received fines totalling €27,375 for lightning of fireworks, throwing objects and pitch invasion in the 2-1 defeat to Italy last Saturday.
