Celtic take aim at Graeme Souness after Callum McGregor’s Scotland assist

Celtic has fired back at former Rangers manager, Graeme Souness, after his comments about Callum McGregor at Euro 2024.

After Scotland’s defeat to Germany in the opening group game, Souness singled out the Celtic captain for his performance in comments that were deemed grossly unfair by the Celtic support and former Hoops hero, Peter Grant.

McGregor also responded to the criticism he received and said that he had taken it personally and vowed to use Souness’ words to prove him wrong.

In an attempt to defend himself, Souness dug a bigger hole when he explained on talkSPORT why he referred to McGregor as simply ‘the Celtic captain’ when he said, “I couldn’t remember his name. But I knew he was captain of Celtic.

“I have to say, that question can only arise in the west of Scotland. I forgot his name, I couldn’t remember his name but I knew he was a good little football player and if it’s been taken as a slant or criticism, I didn’t mean it. I genuinely forgot his name.”

Celtic’s social media team’s quick thinking

In a superb retort to Souness’ comments, Celtic posted a tweet on X taking aim at the Euro 2024 pundit immediately after the Hoops captain’s part in Scotland’s opener against Switzerland.

McGregor put in a good performance for Scotland in the 1-1 draw against the Swiss and hopefully, the Celtic captain can help Steve Clarke’s side qualify from the group with a result against the already-eliminated, Hungary.

With the final group game to be played on Sunday, the Celtic captain, alongside Anthony Ralston and hopefully, Greg Taylor and James Forrest could help create history for Scotland

Not only are all four treble-legends at club level but they also have the opportunity to become legends in the eyes of the Tartan Army if they can steer the Dark Blues into the knockout stages of Euro 2024.
