Jac Caglianone ties Florida’s all-time single-season hits record

Florida’s star first baseman Jac Caglianone has carved his name into the Gators’ history books during their College World Series matchup against Texas A&M. With the Aggies leading the Gators 5-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Caglianone hit a single to get on base, and his single now ties him for Florida’s all-time single-season hits record at 104.

Caglianone’s 104th Hit of the 2024 season matches the Gators record held by Mark Kiger and Pat Osborn. Ironically, Kiger and Osborn both accomplished this feat in the same season, 22 years ago, in 2002.

With Florida trailing by five in the bottom of the eighth inning, the chances for Caglianone to stand alone as the Gators’ single season hit king are dwindling. The Gators will need an improbable comeback in the last two innings to not only give their first baseman a chance at more history but, more importantly, keep their 2024 national championship hopes alive.
