Texas A&M defeated Florida 6-0 on Wednesday night to punch its ticket to face Tennessee in the 2024 Men’s College World Series final.

The Aggies led the game from the very beginning. They scored two runs in the top of the first inning before adding insurance runs throughout the game to keep the Gators at bay thanks to a stellar performance on the mound from Texas A&M’s pitching staff.

Texas A&M took advantage after Florida found itself in a jam during the opening inning. Ted Burton was walked in the top of the first with the bases loaded to score the first run of the game while Cade Sorrell followed that up with an RBI sacrifice fly for the next out.

The 2-0 lead would stand until the fifth inning when Aggies slugger Gavin Gahovac belted a ball into the gap in deep center. The baseball would hop over the outfield for a ground-rule double, but not before it scored another Texas A&M run.

It wasn’t until the sixth inning that fans saw the first home run of the game for either squad. After a quiet few innings following the first-inning sac-fly, Sorrell got back into the mix — this time with the play of the game to that point. He launched a two-run home run over the fence to push the lead to five runs in favor of Texas A&M. The Aggies added one more run in the ninth inning before finishing off the Gators

As the Aggies’ bats were getting comfortable, Texas A&M had been just as successful on the defensive side of the ball as well. Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnagle opted to pitch Justin Lamkin during Wednesday night’s duel and was masterful on the mound for Texas A&M. He finished the game with nine strikeouts compared to three hits. He finished 5.0 innings of work in 70 pitches, including 54 called strikes.

The rest of the Texas A&M bullpen — Chris Cortez, Josh Stewart and Evan Aschenbeck — finished the Gators off in scoreless fashion.

The win pushes the Aggies forward into the national championship series in Omaha against a familiar opponent — the Tennessee Volunteers. They matched up one time this year, a matchup in the SEC Tournament that saw the Vols come away with a 7-4 victory.

The final series of the 2024 college baseball season begins on Saturday, June 20 with the first game set for a 7:30 p.m. ET start time. Game 1 of the best two-out-of-three series will air live on ESPN.
