Report: Mason Greenwood could get second chance to make move he wanted in 2023, Man Utd in £30m talks

This summer Manchester United’s most linked departure is Mason Greenwood as several clubs seemingly circle.

One player almost guaranteed to be sold by Manchester United this summer is Mason Greenwood who boosted his market value substantially thanks to an excellent campaign with Getafe on loan.

In 33 La Liga appearances, Greenwood scored eight and assisted six as he very quickly found his feet back in football after a long period without playing.

Due to this form, interest in signing him permanently is high with several clubs keen. But now one club who were keen on Greenwood last summer have begun talking to United once more.

United will want this sale to go through quickly as it’ll likely be funding the arrivals currently being linked with an Old Trafford move.

Lazio enter £30m talks to finally sign Mason Greenwood

United’s quest to sell Greenwood this summer is beginning to catch traction and now a bid has been submitted for the 22-year-old.

The Daily Mail has reported that Lazio have opened talks with United over a potential move to sign Greenwood this summer on a permanent deal.

Lazio are said to be willing to spend £30m initially on Greenwood while the report continues that the fee could then rise through a series of performance-based bonuses.

After Lazio’s approach, United are expecting additional clubs to formalise their approaches to take Greenwood off Ineos’ hands. Juventus and Napoli are among those keen while they’re joined by clubs in Germany, Spain and Portugal.

Lazio making an offer for Greenwood could see them sign a long-standing target and offer the player a second opportunity to make that move which he was previously keen on.

Mason Greenwood gets a second chance to sign for Lazio

Much like now, the end of the 2023 summer transfer window saw Greenwood’s exit from Old Trafford a hot topic for the club.

Before the striker joined Getafe on loan, Lazio was one team who’d approached about possibly taking him. But it ultimately didn’t transpire, with the Italian club later blaming United for that deal collapsing as The Mirror reported.

Greenwood supposedly wanted to make the move to Lazio too and therefore he’ll be delighted to see that they’re now desiring a permanent deal to bring him to Serie A.

This summer is giving Lazio and Greenwood a second chance to complete the move which both wanted last summer and after the season he had in Spain, it’s hardly a shock that they’ve returned strong with interest.

With offers now coming in it’s probably a matter of time until his exit is sealed, and Lazio is as good an option as any for his development.
