Report: The position Phil Foden is expected to play in for England against Denmark tonight

Phil Foden has been the talk of the town since England’s first game at Euro 2024 – and a report has now shared where the Manchester City star is set to play against Denmark.

England got off to a good start at the tournament, beating Serbia 1-0 on Sunday.

Jude Bellingham scored the only goal of the game in the first-half, but England struggled throughout.

Gareth Southgate’s side were disjointed and had trouble breaking the lines and creating meaningful chances.

In the end, the Three Lions squeezed past Serbia. But big improvements are needed if they are to go deep in the tournament.

Phil Foden was a big talking point after the Serbia game. The star struggled to influence the game against Serbia, and was often overlooked by his teammates.

He played on the left wing, and many fans have been clamouring for him to move inside for the next game, or even be benched.

Now, a report has shared what Southgate intends to do with the City man.

Foden is obviously no stranger to playing on the left.

Prior to the 2023/24 season, Foden played many times wide on the left, especially before the arrival of Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku at the club.

Foden has shown for City he can be effective there.

But against Serbia, he looked somewhat rusty. He had spent the 2023/24 season mainly playing in the middle, which may have been a reason for his struggles.

But Roy Keane lept to the defence of Foden earlier this week, insisting he should not be dropped against Denmark on Thursday night.

Gary Neville also insisted that Foden ‘starts every game’.

And it seems Southgate is ready to keep the faith. It has been reported by the Daily Mail that Foden is set ‘set to continue playing on England’s left-hand side’ against Denmark.

Apparently, England will be unchanged against the Danes, and Trent Alexander-Arnold will once again play in midfield.

Foden needs to deliver

So Foden is expected to feature on the left wing again for England, and hopefully he will have much joy than he did against Serbia.

It is right that he is getting another chance to start. It would have been wrong to just drop him after one not-so-good outing.

At the end of the day, Foden is probably the most naturally talented player in the squad. England need him to find his mojo, and once he does, they will be in business.

He needs to try and put his stamp on this game against Denmark, because another performance like the one against Serbia may jeopardise his starting berth if Southgate is unwilling to use him in the middle. Natural wide players like Anthony Gordon and Jarrod Bowen will be waiting for their chances.
