Report: Europa League side submit bid to sign Middlesbrough ace who Carrick thinks is 'fantastic'

Middlesbrough have received a transfer offer from a European side for one of their senior players.

The 2024 summer transfer window has been open for less than a week but Middlesbrough have already been quite active.

The Championship side are looking to secure promotion to the Premier League at the third time of asking under manager, Michael Carrick.

In their attempts to clinch a return to the top flight, Boro have already agreed to sign Luke Ayling on a free transfer from Leeds United after the right-back impressed on loan last term.

Elsewhere, Columbus Crew midfielder Aidan Morris is on the verge of sealing a move to Teesside for a fee of around £3.14million.

At the top end of the pitch, meanwhile, Delano Burgzorg has joined Boro on a permanent transfer from German outfit Mainz 05 after spending last season on loan with Huddersfield Town.

There could also be movement on the outings front, with right-back Anfernee Dijksteel made available for sale by the North East outfit.

Middlesbrough receive transfer offer for Dan Barlaser

As well as Dijksteel, another senior Middlesbrough star could be on his way out of the North East this summer following a bid from a Europa League side.

The player in question is 27-year-old central midfielder Dan Barlaser, who has been on Boro’s books since signing from Rotherham United in January 2023.

According to Turkish outlet 61 Saat [via Sport Witness], Trabzonspor, who will be plying their trade in the Europa League next term, have made an offer to Middlesbrough for the signing of Barlaser, as well as reaching out to the player personally.

The Turkish side’s scouting team are said to be big fans of the midfielder, who made 33 Championship appearances for the Teessiders last term.

Michael Carrick dubbed Dan Barlaser ‘terrific’

Since signing for Middlesbrough, Barlaser has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth for the club.

However, the player is still seemingly admired by manager Michael Carrick, who labelled him as ‘terrific’ following a win over West Brom in 2023:

“Dan has been playing well,” Carrick said as per Teesside Live. “He’s been playing very well. A lot of our good play has been going through him and Jonny and they’re working together very well. He was terrific. He can control the game so well from that position.”

Dan Barlaser transfer can open door for Law McCabe at Middlesbrough

However, the back end of 2023/24 saw Barlaser’s game time limited, with just one start in Boro’s final four league games of the season.

The imminent arrival of Aidan Morris is also expected to push the Englishman further down Middlesbrough’s midfield pecking order.

As a result, Barlaser’s sale may be something Middlesbrough should consider sanctioning, especially as it could hand an academy star more first-team minutes.

18-year-old starlet Law McCabe made his senior debut for the Teessiders last season after scoring four and assisting five in 33 U18 Premier League ties.

The teenager impressed in his limited outings and even started Boro’s final game of the campaign versus Watford ahead of Barlaser.

As a result, Boro selling Barlaser this summer could be a smart move as it would hand them some extra funds to play with in the market and open the door for McCabe to garner some much-needed first-team experience.
