Berlin police launch raids aimed at international weapons trade

Berlin police conducted a series of raids on Thursday morning in connection with investigations into the international trade in weapons, authorities announced.

About 150 officers were deployed as part of the searches in several districts across the city, a police spokesman said.

He declined to provide further details of the police operation.

"Berlin is and remains a hotspot for international criminal networks, this applies to drugs as well as to the trade in sharp weapons, which are distributed via the darknet or well-organized gangs," explained the head of the police union in Berlin, Stephan Weh, according to a statement on Thursday.
