Russian cyclist Vlasov will not compete at Paris Olympics

Russian cyclist Alexandr Vlasov will not participate in the Paris Olympics road race, state news agency TASS quoted the nation's federation chief, Viatcheslav Ekimov, as saying.

Ekimov said that Vlasov considers the Olympic course profile not suitable for him to get a good result, while also citing a full competition calendar.

Vlasov, 28, is among a small number of Russians and Belarusians who have been declared eligible to compete at the July 26-August 11 Paris Games as neutrals and under strict criteria, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Vlasov had criticized the invasion when it started in February 2022.

The 2022 Tour de Romandie winner rides for the German Bora-hansgrohe team and is to compete for them in the Tour de France, which starts on June 29.
