On Wednesday night, Texas A&M enjoyed a dominant 6-0 victory over Florida to punch its ticket to the 2024 College World Series, where they will face off against Tennessee. A large part of the Aggies’ success on Wednesday night is accredited to the outing by starting pitcher Justin Lamkin.
Following Texas A&M’s victory over Florida, in the post-game press conference, the sophomore pitcher revealed what was behind his lights-out performance.

“I think the big part of it is just having self-confidence in myself and knowing I can go out there and I can compete and play at this level, and I think just getting ahead of hitters and just having true confidence in all my pitches really helped me out,” Lamkin said.
Lamkin has enjoyed success going head-to-head with Florida in this year’s College World Series. He entered the World Series with an ERA of 5.73, which dropped down to 5.00 after his two outings against the Gators. Lamkin threw five shut-out innings against Florida on Wednesday night, allowing just three hits and one walk to complement his nine strikeouts. If Lamkin can continue to ride this high level of confidence, he’ll undoubtedly be called on to help lead Texas A&M to its first-ever college baseball championship and be the face of the program going forward.
Jim Schlossnagle on Texas A&M overcoming a rash of injuries in the post-season
While Lamkin was dealing for Texas A&M on Wednesday, the Aggies were battling through a rash of injuries. Texas A&M is already without star rightfielder Braden Montgomery and had to deal with an injury to its other star outfielder, Jace LaViolette. In the middle of their game against Florida, head coach Jim Schlossnagle explained how the Aggies have been able to overcome the injury bug down the stretch of this year.
“I think that this resilient club,” said Schlossnagle. “Any team that’s made it this far in the College World Series is had to overcome some level of adversity; that’s what the game is about. Whether it be poor play, bad luck, or injuries. So for ours, it’s been injuries as of late. Hopefully we can get better throughout the course of the rest of the week.”
