Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink asked what Roy Keane is like as pundit, he responds with rare ‘behind-the-scenes’ look

Former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has made an eye-opening admission over what Manchester United legend Roy Keane is like behind the scenes as a pundit.

Roy Keane has become a leading figure in punditry on Sky Sports for the Premier League, as well as providing in-depth analysis of international football for ITV.

However, the Manchester United legend has maintained his no-nonsense aura from his legendary playing career while on camera as a pundit.

The straight-talking Keane has not been afraid to pull any punches whenever necessary after becoming a mainstay in the world of punditry.

The 52-year-old Irishman has also shown another side to his personality as part of his regular appearances on The Overlap’s Stick to Football show.

Keane became more involved in punditry after his time as a manager came to an end, with the former United captain’s last spell ending in 2011 with Ipswich Town.

The Irish hardman took on different assistant manager roles at the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest after his time with Ipswich Town.

Hasselbaink on Man Utd legend Keane as pundit

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has stepped up for punditry in the past and the former Chelsea striker has been in the Sky Sports studio alongside Roy Keane.

Keane has been box-office entertainment for Sky Sports with his no-nonsense reactions, with Hasselbaink enjoying a front-row seat to the experience.

However, Hasselbaink admitted that Keane is completely different off-camera and pointed out that the United legend has a “dry [sense] of humour.”

The 52-year-old former Burton Albion and Northampton Town boss candidly revealed that he loved the opportunity to see a different side to Keane.

“Roy is Roy! Behind the scenes, he’s a very cool guy who jokes. He’s got a dry [sense] of humour,” he told The Daily Mirror in 2023.

“He’s not somebody that will dance and all that kind of stuff, that’s not Roy.

“But Roy’s a cool guy. I love working with him and we always have fun and a laugh.”

Richards on working with pundit Keane

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has struck up a ‘bromance’ dynamic with Keane during their time together in the Sky Sports studio.

Micah Richards admitted that he felt that Keane has only shown another side to him to the people “he trusts,” adding that the United legend is an “absolute diamond.”

Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine in 2022, he said: “He’s one of the nicest, most humble people I’ve ever met.

“Just don’t cross him. He only drops his guard with people he trusts; I’m not claiming to be his best mate, but I’m someone he knows and has a good relationship with now.

“I think he often just doesn’t let people in. But he’s an absolute diamond. I love working with him.”
