Report: What Chelsea are planning to do with Cole Palmer in the team next season

Chelsea have already set out a plan for what they want to do with Cole Palmer when it comes to his role at Stamford Bridge next year.

Cole Palmer, 22, won the hearts of the Chelsea fanbase for a spectacular debut season at the club last year.

The young attacker, who plays as a right-winger or a No 10, wasn’t content any longer playing a fringe role at Manchester City.

His risk in moving to Chelsea was certainly justified, scoring 25 goals in 45 games across all competitions for the Blues.

Chelsea’s plan with Cole Palmer

The Athletic claims that Palmer is the one Chelsea attacker who’s made himself a guaranteed starter for the club.

It is explained that the Blues are planning to use the 22-year-old star more more regularly in a central No 10 position next season.

The report says that Noni Madueke, plus transfer target Michael Olise, will be left to battle it out for the starting position on the right wing.

We’ve seen Palmer the effective from the right for large spells of his debut Chelsea campaign. He’s always got a tendency to go looking for the ball and to naturally drift infield to central pockets, though.

The Chelsea Chronicle is delighted to hear Palmer will be more commonly used in the middle under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

A new kind of challenge next season

There’s no doubt that Palmer took everyone by surprise last year, but you can be sure that opposition teams will be fully briefed on him going into any match next season.

We’ll learn next year just how good the attacking playmaker is. From what we’ve seen so far at Chelsea in terms of consistency and composure, he’ll rise to the challenge.

While it’s disappointing that Palmer is no longer working under Mauricio Pochettino, who certainly got the best out of him during their year together, he’s got a head start on most teammates because he previously worked with Maresca at Man City.
