Chelsea believe their 'unlucky' player is a genuine option to play striker as Jackson alternative - journalist

Chelsea believe that they’ve already got someone in the squad who’s a genuine option to play as the central striker next season and compete with Nicolas Jackson.

From all the various transfer reports in the media, the Blues appear keen on bringing a new frontman to Stamford Bridge in the summer window.

Nicolas Jackson, 23, is the only real out-and-out first-team striker in the squad going into next year. Of course, that’s ignoring the duo of Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja, both of whom are tipped to leave.

While Chelsea continued to be linked with different striking options, it’s now being claimed they do see one of their players as an option to lead the line.

Chelsea 26-year-old is a striker option

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via his Substack that Chelsea do look at Christopher Nkunku as a ‘genuine striker option’.

It is understood that the Blues think he can do a good job leading the line as a No 9 if needed.

Apparently, Chelsea don’t think the perfect established centre-forward is available to them right now in this summer window. It’s why they’ve been looking at strikers based around availability/price, plus they don’t want to block the progress of Jackson.

Christopher Nkunku must be in the XI

Chelsea fans didn’t get to see the real Nkunku last season because of injury, playing just 14 matches across all competitions in a tough debut year.

However, the versatile attacker is full of quality and needs a permanent spot in the starting line-up. Where should that be, though?

The Chelsea Chronicle would prefer Nkunku in the team as a second striker, whether that’s in a No 10 pocket or as an inverted left-winger.

Ultimately, he should be able to add some extra firepower in attack. He previously scored 70 goals in 172 games for RB Leipzig.

Speaking via Chelsea’s official website last month, Cole Palmer claimed that Nkunku was “unlucky” last season because of injury and he’ll show everyone how good he is next season. We couldn’t agree more with that!
