Ian Wright has just asked a question about Chelsea’s Cole Palmer after England slipped to a disappointing 1-1 draw on Thursday evening against Denmark.
England put in a lacklustre performance yesterday at Euro 2024 by drawing their second group stage match versus Denmark. In fact, their opponents even shaded possession with 51% of the ball.
For Cole Palmer, he was yet again an unused substitute and is still waiting to play his first minutes of the summer tournament.
The 22-year-old attacker couldn’t have done much more last season in a Chelsea shirt to force his way into England’s plans. Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate is yet to unleash him, though.
Ian Wright baffled by Cole Palmer decision
Ian Wright can’t quite believe that Chelsea’s Palmer is yet to play a single minute so far at the Euros.
He’s asked why the Blues star appears to be fifth in the pecking order of England’s wingers. We saw Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka start against Denmark in wide areas, while Jarrod Bowen and Eberechi Eze were used off the bench.
“Is Cole Palmer the fifth best player as a winger in this squad? No way. How can Cole Palmer not even get a look-in the kind of player he is?” Wright told ITV Sport.

Obviously, The Chelsea Chronicle is going to have a loyalty towards Palmer.
But the reality is that any England fan should be rallying for Palmer to get some action on the pitch.
On top of his 25 Chelsea goals last season, he also weighed in with 15 assists. England’s solution to their creative issue right now may be right in front of them.
It’s understandable that Palmer, 22, has had to bide his time while more experienced teammates begin the tournament. There’s clearly a lack of cohesion and attacking power right now, though.
England face Slovenia next
When England play their final group match on Tuesday night against Slovenia, Palmer has to be under serious consideration to start. If not, he’s got to come on as a substitute with enough time to influence things.
It feels like England need a spark in their tournament to lift the doom and gloom around the fanbase.
Just look at what Palmer has done in a Chelsea shirt and you’ll know he may be the individual to turn the tide with his extra bit of magic.
