Armenian authorities have announced the recognition of Palestine as a state, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
The department stated that Armenia has joined the UN General Assembly resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry said that Armenia is genuinely interested in establishing peace and stability in the Middle East and in achieving lasting reconciliation between the Jewish and Palestinian peoples.
"On various international platforms, we have always advocated for a peaceful and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian issue and support the 'two-state' solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," the statement said.
The department stated that Yerevan is convinced that "this is the only way" to ensure that Palestinians and Israelis can realize their legitimate aspirations.
"Based on the above and reaffirming our commitment to international law and the principles of equality, sovereignty, and peaceful coexistence of peoples, the Republic of Armenia recognizes the State of Palestine," the statement said.
Recognition of Palestine
Palestine is a region in the Middle East, its territory divided into two parts - the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The West Bank is a hilly area located west of the Jordan River. The Gaza Strip is a coastal territory located south of the West Bank.
Palestine is an independent and partially recognized state. Its independence has been recognized by 138 of the 193 UN member states.
Earlier, it was reported that the governments of Norway, Spain, and Ireland recognized Palestine as a state.
Additionally, the Slovenian government supported the proposal to recognize Palestine as a state.
