Cooper wants to keep star man at Leicester City amid interest from Everton & more - journalist

Leicester City are looking to offer new terms to a midfielder who is reportedly attracting interest from both Premier League and European clubs.

Leicester City will be looking to build on a successful promotion winning season, which saw them win the Championship on 97 points, seven points ahead of Leeds in 3rd.

Since Steve Cooper’s appointment on Thursday, which split opinions amongst Foxes fans, he has already looked to stamp his own authority on the side by looking to bring in some fresh faces to the coaching staff.

Former boss Enzo Maresca left to join Chelsea, in which he took all of his staff, leaving Cooper with a clean slate.

The former Nottingham Forest boss has also wasted no time in looking to tie down some of the club’s most prized assets, with interest heating up for one of their key players from a Premier league rival.

Leicester City look to extend Wilfred Ndidi contract

Leicester City are looking to keep hold of Wilfred Ndidi for the 2024/25 season with his contract set to expire this summer, per journalist Santi Aouna.

It is also reported that Everton are interested in the Nigerian, alongside Lyon and Marseille.

The 27-year-old is not shy of suitors after a successful season with the Foxes, playing on 32 occasions.

Ndidi’s season was slightly hampered with injury, leading to him being excluded from the squad on multiple occasions.

He also managed to contribute an impressive five assists to Maresca’s side, alongside scoring four himself.

Why Leicester City must do everything to keep Wilfred Ndidi

The Nigerian has been the spine of the Foxes’ side ever since his move from Genk at the start of the 2016/17 season.

With him being just eight appearances shy from 200 Premier League games, his experience will be crucial for the Foxes.

His defensive offerings are also crucial in getting the best out of midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who was pivotal in Leicester City winning the title last season with his 26 goal contributions.

The return to Premier League football may just be what Ndidi needs to commit his future at the King Power Stadium, although the prospect of European football from other clubs will be difficult to compete with.

It is clear that Cooper has been brought into the role with a clear plan and strategy, shown by him taking decisive action with his staff. There is no doubt that this will reflect positively on whether Ndidi decides to snub other offers to further his stay at Leicester City.
