£50k-a-week Man City player has been faster than Kylian Mbappe in Euro 2024

With two major international tournaments taking place, Manchester City have a significant number of their players involved in these competitions.

Specifically, out of the 15 players from Pep Guardiola’s squad on international duty this summer, 14 of them are in the European Championship and one is at Copa America.

With Julian Alvarez representing Argentina in the Copa America, City have players representing England, Portugal, Croatia, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland at the Euros.

Focusing on the Euros, even though the group stage of the tournament is still going, one particular City player has done something in the competition that has ranked him above one of the best players in the world right now.

Jeremy Doku registers higher top speed than Kylian Mbappe

According to statistics from UEFA published in between the second round of group stage fixtures, Jeremy Doku racked up a top speed of 35.3 km/h, the fourth-highest in the tournament.

This puts him above Kylian Mbappe, who currently sits in fifth place with a top speed of 35.2 km/h prior to France’s match against the Netherlands.

Interestingly, back in 2021, Mbappe named Doku as a player that stood out to him for his speed.

Doku proved himself to be a tricky attacker in debut City season

City splashed out £55m to sign the Belgian from Rennes back in the previous summer transfer window.

Across his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, the 22-year-old, who Kevin De Bruyne said improved vastly as the campaign went on, scored six goals and provided 10 assists in 43 games across all competitions.

With 29 Premier League appearances under his belt last season, Doku, who is picking up a weekly wage of £50k-a-week, ended the campaign with the second-highest total of successful take-ons in the entire division.

So not only is the winger one of the fastest players in Europe with a higher top speed in the Euros than Mbappe, but he’s also one of the trickiest players in the Premier League.
