Class of 2025 four-star running back Alvin Henderson has flipped his commitment from Penn State to Auburn.

Henderson, who attends Elba (Ala.) High School, announced his decision Friday on social media. He had been committed to Penn State since April 11.

“Auburn is home,” he told Auburn Live. “I really appreciate Penn State and I love it up there and their coaches, but Auburn is home. It always has been.”

Auburn coach Hugh Freeze and offensive coordinator/running backs coach Derrick Nix continued to prioritize Henderson even after his commitment to the Nittany Lions.

“The way (Freeze) and the staff recruits me has made a big impact on me,” he said. “Coach Freeze wants me in his system and I like how he talks to me about life and football.”

Henderson familiar with Auburn

Henderson is very familiar with Auburn. He has visited numerous times over the past 2-3 years, including in February and three times in the spring. He also attended the Iron Bowl in November.

Following the Iron Bowl, Henderson didn’t hide his allegiance.

“It was crazy,” he said. “The atmosphere was loud. I thought Auburn was about to come out on top. Already knew (Auburn would keep it close) because Bama’s not good. I expected Auburn to win (before the game).

“Like I tell everybody, these next 2-3 years, Auburn will be smacking Bama because we are going to be able to get the recruits here.”

Including himself.

“I have great relationships at Auburn,” he said. “It is a great atmosphere. I like what Coach Freeze is doing and I could see myself there.”

And now he will.

Auburn having success with in-state recruits

Henderson is the 16th commitment in the Tigers’ ’25 class and first running back. The Tigers now likely will look to add a bigger back with the top targets being four-star Ousmane Kromah and three-star Shekai Mills-Knight.

With the addition of Henderson, Auburn now has commitments from six of the top 15 in-state recruits: Eric Winters, Henderson, Jakaleb Faulk, Jourdin Crawford, Malik Autry and Carde Smith.

As a junior, Henderson rushed for 3,523 yards and 61 touchdowns. He averaged 15.7 yards per carry. He rushed for more than 300 yards in four games and more than 200 yards in 10 games. His lowest output in any game this season was 165 yards, and he did that on just six carries (and scored four touchdowns).

Henderson is ranked the No. 8 running back in the country in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks the No. 147 overall recruit in the country and No. 13 in Alabama.
