One former Ole Miss Rebel goes down, another steps up to take his place.

Anthony Servideo, on Thursday, was promoted to the Norfolk (Virginia) Tides, the AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. He replaced starter Errol Robinson, who went on the seven-day injured list.

Robinson was a sixth-round selection of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2016 MLB Draft. He signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles in January. Robinson started 66 of 67 games for Ole Miss as an SEC All-Freshman in 2014. Ole Miss reached the College World Series for the first time in 42 years.

Servideo was arguably Ole Miss’ Most Valuable Player during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He hit .390 with five home runs as the Rebels won 16 of their 17 games. The draft was cut from 40 to five rounds that year. Servideo went off the board in the third (No. 74 overall).

“I just want to thank every single one of you (Ole Miss fans),” Servideo said at the time, in a farewell message shared exclusively with the Ole Miss Spirit. “You made my career at Ole Miss super special. I’m so thankful to have been able to put on the Ole Miss uniform and have you guys’ support behind me.

“They have such a huge impact on us players. I don’t even think they realize, especially when we’re playing.”

Servideo was hitting just .193 in AA this season. He posted a .185 mark across 95 games and two levels (A and AA) in 2023.

ROBINSON O’HAGAN NAMED BOWERMAN AWARD SEMIFINALIST

Ole Miss has multiple semifinalists for the Bowerman Award for the first time in program history.

Two-time NCAA champion Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan, on Thursday, joined McKenzie Long from the women’s side. Long turned pro a day later and signed with Adidas ahead of the 2024 Olympic Trials.

The Bowerman is collegiate track and field’s version of the Heisman Trophy. Robinson-O’Hagan this month became the 17th individual ever in the NCAA to sweep the shot put in both indoors and outdoors. He’s the youngest to do so since 1989 and fourth-youngest to do so all-time.

Robinson-O’Hagan also claimed four first-team All-America awards this year, as well as 26 NCAA points, four SEC titles and 40 SEC points.
