Alabama trending for 5-star OT Ty Haywood

Ty Haywood during Alabama official visit

The buzz currently favors the Alabama Crimson Tide for Denton (Texas) Ryan five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood. There was a time when that belonged to Oklahoma, but Haywood didn’t take his trip to Norman last weekend in what came as a surprise, per On3’s Steve Wiltfong.

Alabama is now trending for the five-star offensive tackle, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

The Tide have a 71.8% chance of landing Haywood’s commitment, per the RPM. Oklahoma recruiting insider Josh McCuistion logged an expert prediction favoring Alabama with a 60% confidence level on Friday, and on Sunday, On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons added his own pick.

Haywood broke down ‘Bama visit earlier this month

The 6-foot-4.75, 297-pound Haywood left Tuscaloosa impressed after his official visit.

“It was fantastic, it was great. It was way more than what I expected,” Haywood told BamaOnLine. “[The highlight] was everything. It was my first time being there, so basically everything. The coaching staff, the players… Bama itself.”

New Alabama offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic spent time with Haywood on the visit.

“He’s a great guy,” Haywood said of Kapilovic. “He was with me the whole time there… he was there the whole way. Answered all of the questions that needed to be answered. All of that. He was down-to-earth and a very humble guy.”

Ty Haywood Recruit Profile

Haywood is the nation’s No. 9 overall prospect, No. 2 offensive tackle and No. 3 recruit from Texas in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him as a prospect.

“Explosive, powerful offensive tackle with high-end traits for the position. Measured in at around 6-foot-5, 280 pounds prior to his junior season. Owns plus length and projects as a tackle long-term. Shows encouraging movement skills in the camp setting. Doubles as a standout in track and field with a stellar 54-6.75 shot put throw as a sophomore. Transfers those physical attributes over to the field in a functional way. Works at left tackle for Denton Ryan, one of the top talent-producing high school programs in North Texas.

“Flashes very strong hands, stunning defensive linemen with his initial punch. Has strong grip strength and maintains his blocks. A bully in the run game. Shows good reactive quickness with moving laterally. Plays with a sturdy base and shows the ability to anchor on contact. Will need to continue honing his pass set technique and moving his feet once engaged.”
