There are some things on the internet that take on a life of their own. One small graphic can balloon into a massive story in a matter of hours. I’m not sure this qualifies as a “massive sports story,” but the latest college football feud on the internet is entertaining as hell and involves a former Kentucky Wildcat.
Earlier this week a sports business reporter created a graphic featuring beer prices for every single NFL stadium. As you might expect, it took off and became a viral sensation, inspiring another to replicate this graphic for the college game.
The college football beer price graphic was clearly flawed. Kentucky’s $9 Bud Lights weren’t included. At UofL you can buy $5 beers, but only an hour before kickoff in one portion of the stadium. As we’ve all learned over the years, facts are optional on the internet. This graphic led to more graphics.
Tulane boasted the cheapest beer prices in college football. Former Wildcat Jon Sumrall Tweeted about it a few times, but a program down the road challenged this title. Pete Thamel reported students at the University of Louisiana can buy Natty Light cans for $2 when the Green Wave travels to Lafayette in September. To steal a line from Adam Luckett, “What a sport.”

RPM Picks for Kentucky
Eight prospects are on their way to Lexington for the final official visit weekend of June. Kentucky is getting the last chance to make its pitch and there’s a good chance it will be enough to secure a commitment or two or three.
Earlier today Jacob Polacheck shared three RPM picks for prospects who could pop this weekend. One player not included is Jermiel Atkins. I previously submitted a selection for Kentucky to land the enormous offensive tackle from Dayton. On3 expert Steve Wiltfong joined the movement, predicting Atkins would end up at Kentucky. He’s one to keep an eye on this weekend.

Kentucky hosted about two dozen official visitors during the month of June. Here is where some of their top targets are spending the last weekend of the active recruiting period.
Isaac Sowells — NC State
Andrew Marsh — Michigan
Christian Gass — Tennessee
Brody Lennon — Ohio State
Samari Reed — Penn State
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Lennon and Sowells. The tight end from Cleveland received an offer from Ohio State just before he officially visited Kentucky and I fear this weekend’s official visit will seal the deal for the Buckeyes. NC State has been Kentucky’s top competition for Sowells for most of his recruitment. The Cats must survive this weekend to receive some good news when he makes an announcement on July 18.
Administrators Punt on June Signing Period
While contemplating changes to the sport, an idea was kicked around NCAA headquarters. What if we added a June signing day? In this new recruiting world, we’d wrap up this weekend of official visits, and then players would sign with programs next week, before ever taking a snap during their senior high school football seasons.
Sounds stupid, right? Because it is very, very dumb. High school coaches everywhere voiced their concerns. In Georgia, they raised a big enough stink for Kirby Smart to join the chorus and condemn the addition of a June signing period.
Ross Dellenger reports the NCAA has temporarily tabled discussion surrounding a June signing period. Even though the hay may be in the barn for many recruiting classes by summer’s end, officially signing before a player’s senior season is a bad idea for many reasons. Although this drastic move isn’t happening, now is a good time to remind you that this year’s signing date in December has been moved up a couple of weeks to just ahead of conference championship weekend.
