The latest chapter in the ongoing "Megxit" saga finds Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's alleged refusal to accept sole responsibility for their strained relationship with Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales — this is despite their well-publicized criticisms of the royal institution.

"For the sake of balanced reporting, it is important to acknowledge that relationships are reciprocal," a Sussex insider shared. "It would not be entirely fair to place the sole responsibility of mending the relationship on The Duke and Duchess."

This comes amid the Prince of Wales celebrating his 42nd birthday on Friday, June 21, which led his future queen to share on Instagram: "Happy birthday Papa, we all love you so much! Cx." This touching message came with a photo taken by the princess of the monarch-in-waiting frolicking at the beach with their three children in May.

The insider's remarks follow those of royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams who recently shared: "You never know what may happen," when speaking about a possible end to the long-running feud. "I think it's abundantly clear that any rift is undesirable, and when individuals are ill who are involved in it, it makes it even more undesirable."

He added: "The problem with any rift is that it leads to deep mutual mistrust. Harry and Meghan were deeply unhappy as senior working members of the royal family. He believed they were due an apology for the way Meghan in particular was treated."

"The problem with any rift is that it leads to deep mutual mistrust," Fitzwilliams continued. "Harry and Meghan were deeply unhappy as senior working members of the royal family. He believed they were due an apology for the way Meghan in particular was treated. Given that they are not currently attacking the royal family and the idea of bridging the rift is in the air, of course, this is welcome."

But the idea seems "fantastical at best" to some analysts due to the sheer severity of the drama that has followed Megxit.

"However, give a thought to the damage caused by what happened from the interviews they gave in South Africa, on Oprah, on the Netflix documentary, and in Spare and the interviews publicizing it," he further observed. "Of course, William was enraged. They made the Queen's last years very difficult. The King evicted them from Frogmore."

The veteran royal commentator concluded on a hopeful note: "Time can heal things. Serious illness can certainly change things."

Meghan reportedly has not set foot in the United Kingdom since Elizabeth II's State Funeral on September 19, 2022. The Duke of Sussex is said to be torn between his homeland and his new life in California.
