The Florida Gators added to their 2025 recruiting class on Friday evening, as Madison (Miss.) Central tight end Micah Jones announced his commitment to the SEC program.

Jones, who also considered LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arkansas, last visited Florida on May 31-June 2 for his official visit; however, that is just one of a handful of experiences he’s had at the Swamp after landing an offer last summer. That familiarity and comfort level in Gainesville was the difference maker.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Jones is the No. 28 tight end in his class. He is also the 501st-ranked prospect regardless of position.

“I’ve been on a game-day visit; I’ve been to a spring practice, and just the experience and culture they have down there, the city of Gainesville in general, it’s just a great experience every time,” Jones told Gators Online.

“Just the connections, the coaches and the overall community. They have a great community here and it’s a place I would love to play at.”

That home-like feel around Billy Napier’s staff is largely due to the relationship Jones has with tight ends coach Russ Callaway. That bond is strong as it gets and reached another level in recent months.

“He has a lot of energy; he’s a high-energy guy. When he coaches, he wants to get the most out of you and really teaches you,” said Jones. “He kind of has fun with the whole thing too because sometimes college ball can feel like a job sometimes and be draining. I can tell their tight end room likes to have fun.”

The Gators are not done at tight end this cycle

With Jones on board, Florida now holds commitments from six prospects. The highest-ranked commit is Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards defensive lineman Jalen Wiggins, checking in at No. 88 overall.

Florida is nowhere near finished this cycle though and that includes at tight end. The plan is to sign two and they could be inching closer to landing another one in Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside standout Tae’shaun Gelsey. He is also coming off the board this month and trending heavily toward the Gators.
