Two days after unofficially visiting Purdue, quarterback Oscar Rios has committed to the Boilermakers.
The four-star product of Downey (Calif.) High is Purdue’s first 2026 commitment.
The 6-3, 175-pound Rios had offers from the likes of Nebraska, Cal, Utah, Washington, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Auburn, Kansas and Michigan State, among others. Bucolic West Lafayette is the type of setting he’s looking for.
“I was looking for a town where it’s quiet, it’s not really a big city so I can focus more on my sport and my school,” Rios told GoldandBlack.com. “And that’s what West Lafayette is. It’s amazing.”
Purdue was the first–and only–school Rios visited this spring/summer.
“The offense is great,” said Rios. “Coach (Graham) Harrell is amazing. His background with the quarterbacks is phenomenal. The offense is great. We chopped some film up, we went through it. The way that he throws the ball and runs his offense is great and top-tier for quarterbacks.”
How would he describe himself as a signal-caller?
“I’m calm, cool, and collected, and I’m just ready to make a play,” Rios told HuskerOnline.com this spring. “I don’t compare myself to anyone or say I play like this person because I want people to know me as Oscar Rios.”
Rios led his team to an 8-3 mark last year, throwing for 2,633 yards with a 73-percent completion percentage, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions.
“I think I have a good mind for the game,” said Rios. “I can make plays on my feet and in the air. But I feel like I am a balanced quarterback who can make things difficult for defenses.”
