Hesperia (Calif.) Sultana three-star wide receiver LaMason Wallerwas feeling good about Coloradoearlier in his recruitment. At another point, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound wideout was leaning towards Arkansas.
Despite Waller’s interest in these two programs, BYU – who offered him during a visit ahead of his sophomore year – was “always in the mix” for his pledge thanks to wide receivers coach Fesi Sitake. The effort from Sitake paid off, as Waller committed to the Cougars on Friday.
“There is a good thing over there and I want to be a part of it,” Waller told On3.
Waller has known BYU was his choice for a few months
Waller has only visited BYU once, but is excited to be a part of what the Cougars are building in the Big 12. BYU’s coaches, culture and offense played significant roles in his decision to head to Utah for his college football career.
The No. 34 player in California likes how everyone in Provo “loves football” and the genuine nature of the people there. After Sitake came to Waller’s school in March to watch him work out and speak with his father, Waller knew he would eventually choose BYU.
“I’ve always talked to Fesi, ever since I met him my freshman year,” said Waller, the No. 409 overall prospect and No. 66 wide receiver in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. “I’ve always had a good bond and a genuine connection with him.”

Throughout his recruitment, Waller developed a “really good” relationship with Sitake. The three-star feels like he can speak with Sitake about any topic and likes how the Cougars assistant is always honest with him.
“It means a lot that he never gave up on recruiting me,” Waller said. “No matter who he was going against, he’s always been there for me. I know he genuinely cares about me and he genuinely wants me at BYU.”
Sitake is the cousin of BYU head coach Kalani Sitake. Waller is also looking forward to playing for the Cougars’ longtime head man.
“I know that my coach is going to be here for all four years of my college football career and I’m not worried about him leaving,” Waller said.
